River Forest, Ill. - The Dominican University women's volleyball team wrapped up the 2007 campaign with a 3-0 (30-15, 30-24, 30-24) win over Calumet College on Saturday. The win pushed the Stars overall record to 9-20, improving by more than three hundred percentage points on last year's winning percentage. Darcy Kammeier (Kirkwood, MO) and Anka Niemczewska (Vernon Hills, IL) once again paced the Stars' offense. Kammeier posted a team-high 12 kills while Niemczewska dished out 22 assists, putting the 5'8" sophomore at 767 assists on season and ranking her seventh on the Dominican University all-time single season records list. Defensively, freshman Kasey Kiepura (Vernon Hills, IL), a 5'9" middle, paced the Stars with 15 digs while sophomores Megan Moore (Glendale Heights, IL) and Lindsey Cochran (Bradley, IL) added 13 digs and 10 digs respectively in the winning effort. After just one recruiting class under Head Coach Tim Walenga, things appear to be heading in the right direction for the Dominican University volleyball program. The Stars will lose just one student-athlete to graduation and should return most of their 11 underclassmen, each of whom appeared in at least 12 of the Stars' 29 matches including all of the team's six starters -- Kammeier, Niemczewska, Kiepura, Cochran, Michael Ann Kelly (Dwight, IL) and Ashley Gans (Park Forest, IL) -- and starting libero --Moore. |
