River Forest, IL - The Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) released the 2008 NAC All-Conference Softball Team on Tuesday morning with Dominican University freshmen Abbey Bullerdick (New Market, IN) and Megan Day (Zionsville, IN) landing on the All-Rookie Team. Bullerdick, a 5'6" catcher, posted a team-high .386 batting average in the Stars' 37 games and drove in a Dominican University single-season record 37 runs. In NAC play, Bullerdick ranked fourth in the conference with 27 RBI in the Stars' 24 NAC contests. In total, the Indiana native had 12 multi-hit games and drove in two or more runs in a game ten times, including four four RBI games all in conference play. The Stars' slugger also proved to be one of the toughest outs in the conference, ranking in the top ten in strikeouts per game, striking out just eight times in 126 total plate appearances while walking 12 times. In an 11-10 win over neighborhood and NAC rival Concordia University Chicago, Bullerdick went two-for-two at the plate with a double and a home run to go along with a pair of walks. Bullerdick drove in four runs in the game and scored three, lifting the Stars to their first NAC victory of the season.
Day tallied a team best 18 extra-base hits, including 12 doubles, three triples and three home runs. Her .615 slugging percentage on the season ranked tenth in the NAC while her 12 doubles was third most in the conference. As the Stars' leadoff hitter, Day scored a team-best 35 runs, ranking ninth in the conference in runs scored. Once on the base path, Day stole 14 bases while only being caught three times. Day picked up steam as the season wrapped up, ending the season on a six-game hitting streak. During the stretch Day batted.600 with four doubles and two triples. In addition, Day sparked the Stars' offense, scoring 11 runs and driving in four runs. As a team, the Stars posted a 5-1 record down the stretch and outscored their opponents 67-23. |
