Dominican's Eifel Makes Professional Debut With Southern Illinois Miners
Dominican University's Mike Eifel (Midlothian, IL) returned to the mound at Alexian Field in Schaumburg today, making his debut as a professional baseball player with the Southern Illinois Miners, an independent team in the Frontier League, as the Miners played the Schaumburg Flyers in an exhibition game before the Flyers open the 2008 season later this week. Eifel, a 6'4" right-hand pitcher, signed a one-day contract with the Miners giving Major League Baseball scouts a chance to see how the Dominican University graduate would fair against professional hitters. Michael Albert singled and later scored the game-winning run in the Stars 3-2 win over Elmhurst Wednesday evening.
