Welcome to Dominican University Sports Medicine
The Philosophy of the DU Sports Medicine Program is a commitment to student-athlete health care & education. We respect each individual, and believe each individual has a right to professional and comprehensive care that protects his/her dignity and privacy and shows respect for his/her lifestyle and allows the student-athlete to be involved in their health care.
Every student-athlete will receive a thorough evaluation of his/her problems by the DU Sports Medicine Staff. Each student-athlete should have a plan of care, which is coordinated by the DU Sports Medicine Staff and/or team physician which meets the student-athlete's needs. Each student-athlete should be informed about his/her plan of care and be involved in achieving his/her rehabilitation back to his/her sport. Every student- athlete should be encouraged to be responsible for his/her own safety and well-being. Every encounter with DU Sports Medicine provides an opportunity for educating the student-athlete about health and health care.
Since the success of Dominican's athletic teams depends on the safety and well-being of its student-athletes, DU's Sports Medicine Staff is dedicated to give the best medical care possible to its student-athletes.
The Sports Medicine Staff is a dedicated group of allied health care professionals working together to provide the best possible health care to the student-athletes at Dominican University. A major emphasis of the Sports Medicine Staff is on the prevention, evaluation procedures, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and student-athlete education and awareness on injuries and medical conditions.
Under the direction of Head Team Physician Dr. Victor Romano and Head Athletic Trainer Ryan Collins, the Dominican University Sports Medicine Team provides services to 11 varsity athletic teams.
The Athletic Training Room is located within the fitness center in the basement of the Igini Sports Forum and is available for use for all Dominican University student-athletes and competing athletes from opposing institutions only.
